One of our favorite shore excursions I have ever been on was the Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest at Sitka, Alaska. It gave us a wonderful chance to see Alaskan Wildlife up close as well as some gorgeous scenery.
As we sailed through the inlets and waterways surrounding Sitka, our captain delighted us with increasingly exciting wildlife sightings. In addition, on this wildlife tour our boat had some Alaskan naturalists aboard who kept us informed about what we would see coming up around the bend. While on this shore excursion, they guaranteed we would spot a sea otter, harbor seal, or whale. I can only say, thumbs way up for our captain. He really made an effort for us to all have a fantastic time.
We saw soaring eagles, and their nests high in the treetops.
Our tour included many sightings of sea otters. We noticed that they are very affectionate with one another.
We also saw Harbor seals on the rocky shores.
He also included more than half of dozen sightings of humpback whales. He kept in constant contact with other whaleboats so he would know where the whales were headed. Then he would race us to just that spot.
He waited for us in one spot to get one final picture of a whale’s tail fluke.
Overall, it was a very memorable day. If you take an Alaskan cruise, our advice is to take a tour that will really get you out in the nature. You will never forget it.
